WP3 Statistical Analysis Plan - Now available for download!
The MILESTONE statistical analysis plan (SAP) of WP3 is now available for download. The SAP covers the details of the statistical analyses that address all MILESTONE aims and objectives.
The first aim of MILESTONE was to describe the mental health of young people reaching the transition boundary of their child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS) as an indication of their need for continued mental health care. The second aim was to describe young people’s transition trajectories and to determine how these trajectories relate to mental health outcomes. The third aim was to investigate young people’s experiences with the transition to adult mental health services (AMHS).
Additional research questions might be formulated in the future with regard to specific populations that are not within the scope of Work Package 3 deliverables and this statistical analysis plan.

"I am the loneliness of 4 am" - Video
Poetry is a powerful medium for expressing difficult and complex feelings and in this short film, the MILESTONE team, assisted by a professional poet, created a poem that captures the fears and sense of isolation that young people can experience when faced with making the transition from one mental health service to another.
The poem is accompanied by a number of MILESTONE’s researchers and Young Project Advisors presenting young people’s experiences of transition and key recommendations for improving transition.

Final Project Summary Report
(by the MILESTONE consortium)
If you are interested in the study details, key results and overall conclusions of the 5-year-long pan-European research project, click here to read in and find out! The project final report is not only an official requirement by the European Commission, but mainly intended to address and inform the general public about the longitudinal studies performed by the MILESTONE consortium, major outcomes of these studies, and their wider societal implications.
The motivation and goal has always been, and will be in the coming years as well, to improve the care for young people transitioning from child to adult mental healthcare, and to initiate true, effective and Europe-wide change in that regard. We cordially thank all study participants, all professionals, and especially our Young Project Advisors for their efforts and spirit!

"Crossing the Canyon: Transition" - Video by our Young Project Advisors
Recently, the MILESTONE project hast come to an end, and our very active Young Project Advisors have produced a fabulous conclusion video about what the key issues in transitioning from youth to adult mental health care are from THEIR perspective, including their experiences of being involved in the MILESTONE research study.
Please like, spread the word & share!
"No, I wasn't happy with my transition experience. I had to take control and fight for care. It was lonely, frustrating, and a very long process." one MILESTONE study participant opens up about her own difficult transitioning experience. That needs to change. MILESTONE's findings should assist policymakers in making informed decisions that will improve youth mental health, their quality of life, and increase the overall cost-effectiveness at individual and population levels.

Huffington Post coverage of MILESTONE:
“With around a tenth of young people likely to experience mental health issues, it’s a matter of concern that the approach to child mental health varies so dramatically across Europe,” says Warwick Medical School’s Prof. Swaran Singh, who led the MILESTONE project. “Our youth deserve better mental health care than they currently receive!” Read more.

Congratulations!! The University of Warwick (UoW) conferred the "Highly Commended" Public Engagement Award to the MILESTONE project team. The certificate states that "MILESTONE [...] has been working closely with young people going through this transition to build up their skills and confidence to talk about the service they have received, and been using the voice of the young people to help raise awareness of the issues young people face around Mental Health care. MILESTONE has also encouraged research assistants to get involved in all elements of public engagement, helping them to learn new skills and gain experience. The MILESTONE team has presented at the Public Engagement Network conference, and have signed up to the Pint of Science festival in May. They have welcomed and embraced public engagement with the project, and have been a pleasure to work with."

Professor Patrick McGorry (Australia) is a MILESTONE SCEAB member, and he takes an activist point of view on the access of young people to mental health services in an exclusive interview for "ESCAP Online". In his opinion, “a massive double standard between mental illness and somatic illness” exists. Specifically in their transition from youth to adulthood, adolescents with mental health problems often meet the healthcare system at its weakest. Professor McGorry also presented a keynote lecture at the ESCAP 2017 Geneva Congress.
